So this has some relevance to the construction industry because in Boston micro or mini-apartments have become quite popular. I am talking primarily about a 200 square foot apartment in the city and I don’t know
how many of you feel but I like my space. I guess the better response is I like my to be efficient, but 450 square feet is definitely too small for me. So the people at MIT in the Media Lab’s division have come up with what they call the City Home project. The premise of the project is to turn a 200 square feet dwelling into three times the size – get it now with the mansion headline? When I watched the video the first time it definitely reminded me of IKEA and not two minutes later when reading the article the IKEA comparison pops up. How would this impact new construction? Well, I think it would definitely make things more efficient in the use of materials, and reduce some costs associated with the build outs. What I am thinking is that this type of device would maximize space usage. I don’t know about you but I still like my 800 square foot apartment. I also do enjoy having separate rooms that are easily accessible at any time. I am not so sure I would like some mechanically operated device for my bed, dining table, and couch.
