The World Cup has been big news all week, with the run the USA is making, the abundance of goal scoring, and a staircase. Yes, a staircase at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the site for many World Cup games. The staircase in question gives fans access to the stadium and is made of wood. I am wondering why there wasn’t something built with concrete because this looks like a lackluster attempt of taking a shortcut to complete a project in my eyes. The state government of Rio issued a statement last week that they had inspected the structure again and reinforced it. They have also assured that safety is their top priority and that the inspections deemed the staircase safe. I don’t know about you but I sure wouldn’t be walking up this structure. Is this a good piece of evidence as to why metal and steel should be used? Let me know your thoughts.
