I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and celebrated a German World Cup Championship yesterday. Since Germany won I think it would be fun to do something a bit different today on Magnificent Metal Mondays. If you haven’t guessed it yet then we will be talking about
the World Cup trophy. With it being a metal object why restrict ourselves to only discussing structures or buildings when we can discuss one of the most prestigious trophies in sports. The trophy is made of 18 karat gold and has a malachite base.  The trophy is also hollow and stands 36.8 centimeters high. There is approximately 11 pounds of 18 karat gold on the trophy. The trophy was made by Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company in Italy. It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. FIFA does not give the original trophy to the victorious country, but they do provide them with replicas. Unlike the Stanley Cup the winners don’t even get to spend a day with the World Cup trophy, I think that is weak!! These players just spent a month out of their country playing for the most prestigious trophy in the world of football (yes I said it, football not soccer). Let me know what you think about the trophy, personally I like it, but in my opinion nothing beats the Stanley Cup.
