3D printing for the metal construction industry looks to be moving at a quicker pace than initially thought. I’m not sure how many of you in the industry feel but it appears they are starting to print
different structural steel elements for the construction industry. This is really unreal if you think about it, I mean will we be seeing contractors roll up to job sites with 3D printing machines? Or will they be hiring firms that will be created and grow from the new demand for such structural elements. I can already see new exhibitors at METALCON that are in the 3D printing of structural steel industry, now wouldn’t that be cool? How would this impact some of the manufacturers in the industry is the question? I believe most companies would adjust to this business practice and if they were smart they would start investing in this now. The only drawback I can see here is that this is a bit advanced for the industry at the moment, but if you start investing now in this idea it will pay off in the future for sure.
Then again I am not so sure how I would feel about some contractor rolling up on my job site to build my commercial building with a printer that shoots out structural elements for the building. Safe, hmm not sure but this technology that the Jetsons so clearly introduced us to many moons ago is coming. Let me know what you think about this and you can read more about this by clicking here.
