Magnificent Metal Monday takes us to METALCON’s 2018 location, Charlotte, NC. Located just on the outskirts of the city sits a phenomenal 14-ton sculpture made from massive stainless steel layers that rotate 360 degrees and occasionally align to create a massive head. Metalmorphosis was conceived by Count Riprand Arco, Founder and Chairman of American Asset Corporation. Count Arco commissioned internationally renowned Czech sculptor, David Cerny, to conceive, craft and execute a one-of-a-kind sculpture. Cerny says, “I was thinking about doing something as a centerpiece. I knew I wanted to employ water from the beginning.” In addition to the water element, Cerny’s design also incorporates a complex infrastructure and choreographed movement on a magnificent scale, creating a beautiful synergy of form and function. A true testament to his technical savvy and his talent as an artist. Metalmorphosis can be seen at Whitehall Corporate Center, a 200-acre office park located about 15 miles from downtown Charlotte.
