ArchDaily presents the most anticipated architectural projects of 2019. Some that made the list include two long awaited projects in Taipei include a new Performing Arts Center and a new Pop Music Centre. Closer to home, the “Vessel,” a 15-story tall sculpture comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs, and The Shed, a new cultural venue, are scheduled to open sometime this year at the New York City Hudson Yards.
Back across to the middle east, Qatar has a number of exciting projects in the works, but two that made the list include the Al Wakrah Stadium, one of the football stadiums for the 2022 World Cup, and the National Museum of Qatar, a building dominated by an interlocking disc motif inspired by a local crystal formation called ‘the desert rose.’ The museum will feature an extensive look into the small nation’s history (including its food) and will also house research facilities, laboratories, two restaurants, two shops, and a cafe.
Personally, the one that caught my eye is a project call “Under,” Europe’s first underwater restaurant, located in the coastal village of Båly, in Norway. “The structure, which also houses a marine life research center, teeters over the edge of a rocky outcrop, semi-submerged in the ocean. Built from concrete, the monolithic structure will come to rest on the sea bed five meters below the water’s surface; here, it will “fuse” with the ecosystem of the concealed shoreline. Below the waterline, the restaurant’s enormous acrylic windows will frame a view of the seabed.” The restaurant has already begun taking reservations with the first diners expected in April. Don’t delay – make yours today!
