In a city where “encores” are a nightly occurrence, Magnificent Metal Monday takes us to New York City where PPG has received their own “encore” at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Featured in a recent issue of one of METALCON’s partner publications, DesignandBuildwithMetal.com, “PPG Duranar® coatings were selected to reprise their role as the metal coating of choice for the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.”

Nearly four decades after its debut, the Javits Center is undergoing a major renewal. A $1.5 billion expansion will stretch the capacity of the convention center to 3.3 million square-feet of event-related space. It will include more than 350,000 square-feet of function space, a one-acre rooftop farm and a rooftop pavilion capable of hosting up to 1,500 guests.

The essential design of the center will remain unaltered, with the structure’s signature glass and metal façade expanding to accommodate the vast new enclosures. Another consistent design element is the widespread use of PPG Duranar coatings, which were applied throughout the curtain wall cladding in five additional color formulations by Keymark Corp., a long-time member of the PPG Certified Applicator Program™ (PPG/CAP).

Today, the Javits Center is one of many landmark buildings in the Big Apple protected with colorful PPG Duranar coatings. They range from the historic Empire State Building and the award-winning VIA 57 West to multiple projects under construction in the sprawling Hudson Yards development.

PPG’s DURANAR® coatings is celebrating 50 years of elevating buildings with beauty, durability, performance and sustainability. As METALCON 2019 travels to PPG’s headquarter city of Pittsburgh, PA, this year, we are proud to welcome them as a premier sponsor. Be sure to attend the keynote and general sessions in the PPG Theatre at this year’s show, conveniently located in the center of the show floor down the “power aisle.” PPG is also featuring one of this year’s keynote speakers. Former professional ice hockey center and seven-time Stanley Cup winner, Bryan Trottier, who played 18 seasons in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders will share his life journey, including the challenges he faced/overcame along the way and life lessons learned. His keynote session will take place Thursday, October 17 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Additionally, partner publication DesignandBuildwithMetal.com will once again generously sponsor the cash prizes for the Innovation Stations Scavenger Hunt at METALCON 2019. By scanning all ten stations into the METALCON APP, you will be entered for a chance to win.

Registration will open soon. Be the first to know for METALCON 2019 by signing up for a reminder today!
