Tomorrow, the first of our FREE METALCONLive! at Metal Architecture series kicks off at 1:00 pm EST with award-winning architect Barry Alan Yoakum, FAIA, principal of archimania speaking on “Civitas and the Role of Metal in Meeting a Zero Carbon World.” Our other initiatives include the METALCON Business Academy (MBA), METALFOCUS Safety Certification Program, and Technical Topics from the Metal Construction Association.

Tomorrow’s presenter, Barry Alan Yoakum, FAIA, Principal, archimania hails from Memphis, Tennessee. Barry is an ardent advocate of visionary, collaborative and high-performance design and champions progressive, modern architecture irrespective of program, typology, or budget. His Appalachian roots, along with his well-traveled global experience, continues to shape his realized work. He encourages architectural advancement in concert with a dialogue that engages the public to better understand the efforts required to realize a better built environment. His work has been recognized nationally and internationally, and featured in AIArchitect, Architect, Architectural Record, Architecture, Architecture Newspaper, Architecture Week, Architectural Digest, Building Design & Construction, Contract Design, Dwell Magazine, Metal Architecture Progressive Architecture, residential architect, a NOVA Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Citation.
Barry will be presenting on the role of metal in meeting a zero-carbon world by examining his project “Civitas.” Civitas is certified LEED Platinum for Homes. Per the International Living Futures Institute, it is the first registered Zero Energy and Zero Carbon single-family dwelling in the world and is currently under review for certification. As an immersive tool for experimental thinking and design exploration, this project is a living lab laying the groundwork for ongoing and future projects within our design practice with its broad application of high-performance strategies for a variety of typologies.
