METALCON Live! Presents … Metal Building Industry Setting the Bar with AC478

This presentation will provide an overview of the important accreditation program that will improve the quality of work in the metal building industry. Industry leaders, Art Hance and Jen Heimburger (see bios below), will present and answer questions about the Metal Building Assemblers Inspection Accreditation AC478. Both Art and Jen are currently serving in leadership roles with the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA). This accreditation program is recognized as a measure of quality endorsed by the MBCEA, the North American Iron Workers/IMPACT Labor-Management, the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and the International Code Council (ICC).

According to ICC’s Building Safety Journal, “Building officials gain a layer of protection for their jurisdictions when buildings are being assembled by companies accredited through AC478. When a firm is evaluated for accreditation, attention is focused on assembly procedures, inspections, quality assurance, training regiments and commitment to safety.”

More on our presenters — Art Hance and Jennifer Heimburger

Art Hance founded Hance Construction in 2000, providing material erected, turnkey construction management and general contracting services to the industrial, commercial and cannabis markets. Art, a well-known thought leader in the metal building industry, serves as president of the MBCEA where he has been instrumental in driving the creation of the nation’s first accreditation program for metal building contractors, IAS AC-478. Hance Construction is one of 10 contractors to have achieved accreditation under this program. Art has co-authored AIA training programs on sustainability and design of pre-engineered structures and is a regular contributor to several industry publications.

Jennifer Heimburger is the owner of Heimburger Construction, Inc. and is currently serving as the vice president of the MBCEA. Her company has been affiliated with Butler Manufacturing since its inception and both Jennifer and her father have served on Butler’s advisory council with Jennifer being the first female chairman in 2016. HCI achieved the AC478 accreditation in 2021 and strongly supports the efforts of the MBCEA to help other erectors attain accreditation.

The accreditation programs offered by IAS provide verification that companies or organizations have demonstrated compliance with accreditation criteria, standards and codes. The programs are developed and maintained with input from industry and regulators. Maintaining accreditation is subject to periodic assessments by IAS.

IAS provides two major accreditation programs that support building departments and industry professionals involved with the design, fabrication, installation, inspection and approval of engineered metal building systems. While next week’s webinar will focus on AC478, the other accreditation program, AC472, will be covered at METALCON 2021 scheduled for October 6-8 in Tampa, Florida.
