The Importance of Digital Twins in Construction

Digital twins empower construction teams with exact virtual replicas of their sites and assets, providing a referenceable record of pre-and post-design plans. Captured via drone, LiDAR, hand-held camera or other sources, digital twins help make project management of construction sites more efficient and operational. These digital models help both the everyday boots-on-the-ground team as well as boards and stakeholders better inspect and understand the project. The on-site team is able to more easily track, predict and act on the environments in real time versus constantly sending human workers to inspect different areas (which can be a physically demanding and sometimes dangerous task) – while stakeholders can better understand the project scope, building modeling and task progress from anywhere.
