Sonya Malvick has more than 30 years of experience in the metals industry and has been a top producing sales professional throughout her career. She manages the Wisconsin Territory for Olympic Steel, a large service center specializing in carbon, stainless, aluminum and coated flat roll sheet, coil and plate steel as well as value-added services, with locations throughout the United States and Canada.
In the late 90’s, Malvick was the first woman to go on the road for Russel Metals-Bahcall and the second local woman in the industry. She was also one of the first female managers for the company. During her early years of navigating the industry, she was invited to a local Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) event and has been a member for 25 years.
Throughout her membership, Malvick has been actively involved with leadership. She served on the local chapter for 13 years in a variety of positions and then moved to the international level where she served as programs chair for six years, vice president for two years and is currently the AWMI International President.
AWMI has been a great support to Malvick throughout her career. The organization’s four cornerstones (Grow, Educate, Mentor and Network) have been invaluable to her for both personal and professional growth. She believes one should always be looking to mentor others and take advantage of the opportunities for continued learning and peer networking.
